WEEK 4 PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Jason Kidd

Peninsula District
Player of the Week
Josh Butler (Warwick)
– The sophomore
quarterback accounted for 290 yards (231
coming in the air) of total offense and
passed for three TDs. On the game’s first play in a 29-20 win over Kecoughtan he hooked up with
Eric Poindexter for a 69-yard TD pass. Butler ran for 59 yards and bought himself time in the pocket
with an uncanny ability to scramble. Defensively, Butler was in on five tackles.
Other Shining Stars
DeAndre Bethea (Warwick)
– Bethea had a breakout game in Warwick’s 29-20 win over
Kecoughtan Thursday night. Bethea had 101 receiving yards on three receptions including two TDs.
On the defensive side of the ball Bethea intercepted a Nick Carrera pass over the middle of the field.
David Smith (Warwick)
– Smith anchored the Raiders defense’s front-seven with three tackles for
loss including two sacks. Smith constantly pressured Carrera leading to multiple Warrior turnovers.
Adrian Pope (Kecoughtan)
– Pope returned a second half kickoff 89 yards for a TD and led the
Warriors rushing attack with 81 yards on the ground. Pope’s kickoff return helped keep the Warriors in
the game providing his team with a second half boost.
Frank Brown (Bethel)
– Brown passed for a season-high 355 yards on 15-of-27 passing and five
TDs in a 49-20 win over Denbigh. Brown leads the PD in passing with 1,027 yards and 11 TD passes
with only two interceptions. He is the catalyst of Bethel’s spread offense and has the Bruins ranked in
the AAA top-10 at No. 10.
Willie Davis (Bethel)
– Davis, Bethel’s blazing fast receiver, showed off his speed by catching five
balls for 169 yards and three TDs against Denbigh. Davis’ touchdowns were 54, 45 and 7 yards.
Desmond Bellfield (Phoebus)
– Bellfield rushed for a season-high 146 yards on 12 carries and
scored a TD leading Phoebus over Heritage 37-0 Monday night. Bellfield’s first rushing attempt of the
game went for 49 yards setting up his 4-yard TD plunge.
Miles Givers (Phoebus)
– The defensive end had a game to remember. Givers ran a blocked punt 50
yards for a TD and intercepted a Malik Deloatch to give the Phantoms the ball at the Hurricanes’
13-yard line.
Khalid Abdullah (Heritage)
– Although he didn’t crack the 100-yard plateau, Abdullah rushed for
83 tough yards against stifling Phoebus defense. Abdullah was hard to bring down as he broke tackle
after tackle, and came within inches of scoring.
Donnell Lewis (Woodside)
– The Woodside quarterback connected on 7-of-8 passes for 127 yards
and one passing TD proving he is more efficient than a Texas Instrument calculator. Lewis also ran for a
26-yard TD and had seven tackles on defense helping the Wolverines rally to upend Hampton 31-24.
Dillon Christopher (Menchville)
– The Monarch kicker continued to show off his powerful leg with
two field goals – one from 49 yards and the other from 32.
Game of the Week
Bethel (4-0, 3-0) vs. Phoebus (4-0, 3-0) Saturday, 4 p.m. at Darling Stadium
This is a no-brainer pick when it comes to the Peninsula District’s game of the week. Bethel is ranked
No. 10 in AAA and Phoebus is ranked No. 1. The two teams clash with first-place in the PD on the
line and bragging rights as there has been tons of trash-talking on forum boards. On the field, its
Bethel’s spread offense against a tough-minded Phoebus defense – who is allowing 6.5 points per
game. Phoebus will look to grind it out by putting the ball in the hands of Desmond Bellfield and Tony
Pittman. If the Phantoms can get their ground game going and keep the ball out of Frank Brown’s
hands they have a good shot at winning. However, the Phantoms are missing their best cover corner in
Atavius Matthews and will have a hard time shutting down Willie Davis and Rashawn Proctor – the
best 1-2 receiving corps in the PD. I like Phoebus to control the clock, the game’s tempo and to slow
down Brown and company. Phoebus wins a close one 17-16 behind a late Eric Enderson field goal.
